Glasgow City’s Lizzie Arnot of Rangers wins SWPL Goal of the Season 2022/23

Glasgow City’s Lizzie Arnot of Rangers picks up the SWPL goal of the 2022/23 season, with her sensational goal against Hibernian Women in the Sky Sports Cup Final, which was played at Tynecastle Park.

With only half an hour played, Lizzie beat defender Leah Eddie just inside the Hibs half, then ran on to lob a perfect left footer from outside the penalty box and into the top of Hibs net, giving the goalkeeper absolutely no chance.

The judges selected Lizzie’s goal ahead of Spartans’ Rebecca Galbraith’s goal against Aberdeen Women.

With Shelley Campbell’s long range free kick for Glasgow City in third place.

Lizzie, who was born 1 March 1966, plays as a centre forward for Rangers Women in the Scottish Women’s Premier League 1.

Charlotte Gammie won the Goal of the season for the SWPL 2.

Arnot began her career at Edinburgh City then later with Hutchison Vale before joining Hibernian in January 2016.

She won cup medals in 2016 and 2017 with Hibernian Women, who were league runners up on four occasions between 2013 and 2017.

In season 2017, Lizzie suffered a cruciate ligament injury that ruled her out for 14 months however, as soon as she returned to football she scored five goals in the 2018 SWPL Cup Final against Celtic Women.

On June 27 2018, both she and fellow teammate Kristy Smith joined a newly formed Manchester United women’s side for season 2018-2019. Lizzie became United Women’s team first goal scorer in a 1-0 win over Liverpool in the FA Women’s League Cup on 19 August.

Arnot returned to Scotland on 31 July 2020 where she signed for Glasgow Rangers. She went on to win the golden boot in season 2020-21 and is the all-time leading goal scorer for Rangers Women.
