It’s the Vitality Women’s FA Cup quarter-finals this weekend, on 19th March 2023! by Michelle

These are the quarter-finals taking place this Sunday, 19th March 2023:

1 Reading v Chelsea
2 Aston Villa v Manchester City
3 Lewes v Manchester United
4 Birmingham City v Brighton & Hove Albion

The clubs expected to make it through to the semi-finals, which will take place on Sunday 16th April, are Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion. BUT by it’s very nature the FA Cup can throw up surprises, with lower-ranked teams throwing everything they have at the competition.

One of the biggest upsets could be Aston Villa v Manchester City – Aston Villa have been performing well this year and are very serious about climbing the WSL table. Man City have the WSL’s top goalscorer in Khadija Shaw but Aston Villa have 2nd top goalscorer Rachel Daly.  Villa also made some key recruitments in the January window, securing Arsenal legend Jordan Nobbs and Manchester United’s Lucy Staniforth, both on permanent contracts.. Man City are currently 3rd in the WSL, with Aston Villa not too far behind them in 5th.

The other upset could be Championship side Birmingham City winning against Brighton & Hove Albion. Brighton are 2nd from bottom of the WSL, only one point above bottom of the WSL side Leicester City. So we could see a Championship side make it though to the Semi-finals!
