Beth England scored the winner as Tottenham managed to beat bottom side Leicester to end a run of nine successive Women’s Super League defeats.

Having sacked manager Rehanne Skinner after Sunday’s loss at Liverpool, Spurs struggled under interim head coach Vicky Jepson, and it looked like the match might stay at a stale-mate at Brisbane Road before England produced a moment of magic.

Just a minute earlier, Leicester had looked likely to score as Sophie Howard’s header was cleared.

Leicester worked hard for an equaliser but it was Spurs who came closest to providing the game’s second goal but the shot went wide of it’s target.

The victory takes Spurs five points clear of Leicester, who are in the relegation zone.

This win for Spurs ends their run of nine successive Women’s Super League defeats. Rehanne Skinner issued the statement below after her departure:

Tottenham’s next match is against Arsenal Women on 25th March at Brisbane Road – it will be very interesting to see how Spurs perform against their North London rivals then..
